Choosing better: AI adoption begins with the right question, not the right tool

Studying the Master of Artificial Intelligence in Business (MAIB) in Dubai gave me the biggest shift in perspective about AI that I wasn’t prepared for. Being surrounded by students solving real problems for different markets has also changed my approach to solving business problems and creating real business value with AI.

I thought AI was all about technology. But I was wrong.
I used to think that AI was mostly about technology, coding, automation, and machines doing human work. I felt that AI was mainly useful for technical people.
After joining MAIB, I have now understood that AI is also a business tool and not just a technical one. It is about finding the right problem, understanding customer needs, using data, and making better decisions. Now I see AI as a tool that can help businesses solve real problems when it is used with the right purpose.

Choosing an AI tool is not the first step.
Through classroom projects, case discussions, and learning activities, I have understood that choosing an AI tool is not the first step, but having clarity on the business problem is.
For example, if a business wants to improve customer service, the main question should not be only, “Which AI tool should we use?” A better question is, “What problem are customers facing, and how can we solve it better?” Once the problem is clear, AI can help with faster replies, better customer understanding, and improved service.

Asking the right business question is the key.
Asking the right business question is important because AI can only give useful results when the goal is clear. If we do not know the exact problem, the AI solution may not be helpful.
For example, instead of asking, “How can we use AI in marketing?” we can ask, “How can AI help us understand customer behaviour and improve marketing decisions?” This question is clearer and more useful for business.

AI is powerful only when humans stay in control.
MAIB has helped me understand AI from a business point of view. In the classroom, I am learning that AI is not only about tools and systems. It should be connected with business goals, customer needs, and decision-making.
AI can help businesses in many areas, such as customer service, marketing, operations, finance, and planning. It can help companies understand data, reduce mistakes, save time, and make better decisions.
At the same time, I have learned that managers should not depend on AI blindly. They should use AI insights with human judgement, business knowledge, and ethical thinking.

Why AI cannot replace human work.
I strongly believe AI cannot fully replace humans. AI can help us work faster, study data, and make better decisions, but human thinking is still very important.
Humans understand emotions, creativity, ethics, and real-life situations. AI can give suggestions, but humans have to decide what is right, fair, and useful.
In my opinion, AI and humans should work together. AI can support humans, but human judgement and responsibility are still needed.

Responsible AI leadership should be upheld.
Future AI and business leaders should use AI in a responsible and ethical way. They should make sure that AI is used for a clear purpose and not only because it is a trend.
Leaders should take care of data privacy, fairness, accuracy, and bias. They should also make sure that AI decisions are transparent and understandable.
I believe responsible AI leadership means using technology to support people, improve decisions, and create real business value.

My biggest lesson: AI success starts with better questions not better tools
My biggest takeaway is that learning AI is not only about learning tools. It is also about learning how to ask the right questions.
Before using AI, we should understand the business problem, the customer’s needs, and the goal. After that, AI can help us find better solutions.
For me, the main learning is simple: behind every smart AI solution, there should be a clear business question.
