FROM CLASSROOMS TO THE REAL WORLD – MY INTERNSHIP JOURNEY WITH THE BBA PROGRAM
When I first started my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) journey at SP Jain Global, I honestly didn’t have a very clear picture of what working in marketing would actually look like in the real world. Over the last few years, through internships in different organisations and industries, I’ve had the chance to gradually understand how marketing works outside the classroom and what kind of work I enjoy.

Starting off in Mumbai
My journey began in Mumbai during my first year, where I interned with Digi Osmosis as a Marketing Intern. This was my first exposure to the professional world. At the time, everything felt new; working with teams, understanding client requirements, and seeing how brands communicate with their audiences online. I helped with the social media content, campaign planning, and researching digital marketing trends. It was a great starting point because it helped me understand the basics of how digital marketing actually works.
Working under one of the biggest banners
In the following year, I had the opportunity to intern with WPP GroupM, one of the world’s largest media and advertising networks. This experience was very different from my previous one because I was able to see how marketing works at a much larger scale. I supported teams working on campaigns for brands like ColgateandTata Motors, helping analyse campaign performance and learning how data plays a big role in decisions. It was interesting to see how campaigns are constantly monitored and optimised based on performance metrics such as engagement and cost per result.

Continuing in Sydney
By the time I moved to Sydney for the last two years of my course, I had developed a stronger interest in digital marketing and wanted to explore how it works in different industries.
One of my experiences here was with The One Percent Group, a company focused on sustainability. I worked as a Marketing Associate, where I supported digital campaigns and content initiatives. What I found particularly interesting about this role was how marketing could also be used to communicate ideas around sustainability and responsible business practices. I assisted with campaign coordination, content planning, and analysing how audiences were engaging with the brand’s content online.

My experience marketing for the education sector
I also had the opportunity to work with Monaro Education, where I supported the marketing team in promoting educational programs and increasing student enquiries. My work involved researching competitors, assisting with marketing campaigns, and analysing campaign results.
Working in retail
Alongside my internships, I have also been working part-time at Chemist Warehouse in Sydney as a Pharmacy Assistant. While this role is in retail, it has given me exposure to customer behaviour and the day-to-day operations of a large retail business. Interacting with customers and observing how product placement, promotions, and store layouts influence buying decisions has helped me better understand the customer side of business.
An important lesson
Across these internships, one thing I realised is that marketing is a mix of creativity and analysis. Through these experiences, I developed skills in digital marketing, campaign coordination, content planning, and marketing analytics. More importantly, I gained confidence in working in professional environments and understanding how teams’ approach real business problems.
Stepping into the real world
Now, as I approach graduation, I am looking forward to starting my career in the advertising and media industry. I’m particularly interested in roles where I can work on digital campaigns, performance marketing, and brand strategy. I’m excited to keep learning and growing in the field while contributing to meaningful marketing projects.

Advice for new students
For students who are starting their journey, my advice would simply be to stay curious and try different opportunities. Every experience teaches you something new and helps you figure out what direction you want to take in your career.
