ALUMNI SPEAK: ARUNKUMAR SUBRAMANIAN

Arun Kumar

Currently heading the Business Development and Operations  for Bahwan CyberTek in Qatar, Arunkumar Subramanian is an alumnus of S P Jain School of Global Management’s GMBA, 2009. Bahwan CyberTek (BCT) is a global IT products and services provider with over 3000 employees. Arunkumar joined BCT in 2010 for his second job after his MBA. Arunkumar started his post MBA career as an Account Manager and then grew up the ladder to become a Geo head. “When I look back at my career growth and connect the dots, I can attribute my success to many aspects of S P Jain, like faculty, infrastructure, peers and location. But the precious piece of advice came from none other than Mr. Nitish Jain and it is one of my key success factors on a personal/professional front”, he recalls.

“I remember that we had 3-4 interactive sessions with Mr. Nitish Jain over the course. During the farewell, he shared a very important message to all of us where he emphasized on practicing a leadership that embraced a broader sense of personal identity, individual and collective possibility and intercultural awareness. He summarized it as a mantra – ‘opposite of self-respect is ego’ and advised all of us to have that as a part of our DNA when we join any organization”, Arunkumar adds. He continues to tell us how he has witnessed teams where members come from difficult walks of life and thus might not understand your MBA jargons or line of thoughts. There could easily be situations where people tend to act arrogant. This had happened to business graduates from some of the world’s leading institutions.

It is this key learning which helped Arunkumar get an award for best performance from his organization recently. He was highly complimented for the humane and inclusive approach adapted and credits that to his alma mater. “In spite of being a rigorous course, the institution never failed to impart the professional values that is required for a successful leader apart from making them technically competent”, he concludes.

Arunkumar has completed his PMP certification and has been training professionals on Project Management principles.
