A Journey of Excellence and Impact: Celebrating Piyush Garg’s Recognition- Social Impact Award winner

How did your GMBA experience at SP Jain Global, specialising in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management, shape your career?

My GMBA experience at SP Jain Global, specialising in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management, was pivotal in shaping my career. The twin-city model in Singapore and Dubai provided me with a broad global perspective and refined my skills, immersing me in diverse cultures, economies, and work environments. This exposure, combined with learning from world-class faculty and industry experts, deepened my understanding of international business and supply chain strategies.

The robust placement program at SP Jain Global led me to a role in Shanghai, where I led business development for the Russian and Eastern European markets. Leveraging my previous experience in automobile manufacturing and sourcing, I gained valuable insights into Southeast Asian business practices. This foundation, along with my global exposure, was instrumental in my entrepreneurial journey, culminating in the founding of Powertek Engineering. The education and experiences from SP Jain Global have significantly shaped my career and empowered me to make a meaningful social impact through my work.

Can you share some significant projects or initiatives you’ve led in Strategic Sourcing within the automotive and agriculture machinery industry?

Technology drives value creation, and people are willing to invest in products that make a real impact. Innovation, particularly in introducing new products and making them accessible to the masses, has been a significant focus for me.

In the farm mechanisation sector, one of my successful projects has been the creation of ‘PowerFLO’ products for tea garden management. Through Powertek, we brought affordable mechanisation tools to small and medium-scale farmers in India, significantly enhancing their productivity and livelihoods.

Recognising that Indian farmers typically manage small landholdings, we ensured that the mechanisation solutions were both affordable and effective. By adapting existing global technologies for the Indian market, we positively impacted costs, value, and income generation, transforming the agricultural landscape in eastern India.

In the automotive industry, I had the opportunity to work on a pivotal project in product and vendor development for the next-generation World Trucks at Tata Motors. This initiative was crucial for developing advanced commercial vehicles tailored for the Indian market.

As a recipient of the Social Impact Award from SP Jain Global, what do you believe contributed to earning this recognition?

Champions of Change – Transforming India through G2B Partnership

In August 2017, I presented policy recommendations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Doubling Farmers’ Income in India. As part of a select group of young CEOs invited by Niti Aayog, I contributed recommendations that were subsequently adopted by the government. These recommendations emphasized value addition, agri-entrepreneurship, and the enhancement of agricultural infrastructure to boost farmers’ income.

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)

In March 2018, I joined the Mentor of Change Program under AIM, which engages leaders to mentor students in Technology, Innovation, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship. Recognised as a top mentor in 2019 and honoured as an ‘Exemplary Mentor of Change’ by Niti Aayog’s CEO, my work has been featured in ‘Gems of Mentor India.’ I’m proud to have fostered curiosity and innovation in young minds, helping cultivate the next generation of innovators.

CII Young Indians Project Masoom

I led CII-Yi’s Project Masoom to raise awareness and prevent Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). Impacting over 27 million lives, the project empowers children, educates adults, and influences policy for child protection in India. In 2020, I led efforts to broaden the program’s reach and introduced new initiatives for online CSA. A key achievement was the Yi National Masoom Summit, which fostered dialogue and policy action against CSA.

What is your philosophy or approach that you believe has contributed to your success in your career?

My core philosophy is inspired by the Toyota Production System, which focuses on simplifying work, motivating and developing people for problem-solving, and building a culture of continuous improvement. I have focused on process, people, and improvement, and my industry experience has allowed me to put it into practice.

I believe that every step towards self-improvement brings new opportunities and insights. The pursuit of constantly learning from my environment has shaped my approach to creating a positive impact. Building genuine relationships and understanding others’ perspectives is key to connecting and collaborating.
