Two Generations. One Business School.

The pursuit of higher education is a shared goal between this dynamic father-daughter duo. Rakesh KP is an SP Jain Executive MBA (EMBA) alumnus from the Class of 2009 and his daughter, Anushka Rakesh, enrolled in SP Jain’s tri-city Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 2018. We are honoured to have had two generations of the same family studying with us and becoming a part of our global community. We reached out to Rakesh and Anushka to learn about their SP Jain experiences and how it has helped shape their lives.

“The SP Jain EMBA has been the crucial factor in my career success”

After working for almost 10 years in the sales profession, Rakesh felt the need to expand his knowledge base beyond sales to the managerial aspects of an organisation. He started researching the various EMBA programs offered and ended his search at SP Jain.

“I chose SP Jain School of Global Management as the faculty was a mix of dedicated professors and industry leaders. We got the opportunity to learn from their diverse experiences. The professors are exceptional mentors and, even after 10 years of completing my EMBA, I have excellent relationships with them,” says Rakesh.

Talking about his high calibre, established peer group, he shares, “My classmates were from leading organisations in the UAE and had varied work experiences. This provided an incredible platform for peer-to-peer learning and the group discussions in class and projects honed my skills as a professional.”

Rakesh’s career graph has taken an upward turn after completing his EMBA in 2009:

  • 2009: Sales Manager at Al Futtaim, Dubai
  • July 2009: Completed EMBA from SP Jain, Dubai
  • August 2009: Assistant General Manager at Muscat Electronics, Oman
  • July 2011: CEO of Zawawi Business Machines (ZBM), Oman
  • December 2014: General Manager at Muscat Electronics, Oman
  • Since February 2017: General Manager at Juma Al Majid Est, Dubai

“The SP Jain EMBA has been the crucial factor in my career success,” he says.

Enrolling Anushka in SP Jain’s undergraduate program

In 2018, while searching for a college for his daughter Anushka, SP Jain was the first choice because of its BBA program’s multi-country exposure, internship opportunities, exchange programs, regional immersion projects and diversity. “She’s currently in Dubai for her second year and I’ve seen her transform from a school kid to a professional, engaging in business debates with me,” says Rakesh, beaming. “The BBA program is not only about imparting knowledge to students but also about grooming them to take on leadership roles right after graduation.”

“Challenging myself to learn new things”

Anushka says she decided to join SP Jain’s BBA program because she strongly believes that it’s important to live and adapt yourself to the working environment and cultures of different countries to become a global business leader. “The program has helped me learn so much about different countries and I’ve been able to visit many multi-national companies during my time here. Having friends in college from around the world has helped me gain a good understanding of living in a multi-cultural environment,” shares Anushka.

Speaking about SP Jain’s faculty, she says they have always proven to be amazing mentors, guiding her both academically as well as with matters relating to her professional development. “After freshman year, I was motivated to undertake a 2-month summer program at the London School of Economics. It was important for me to step out of my comfort zone and live in a city like London and challenge myself to learn new things.”

We are proud of Rakesh and Anushka’s achievements and we wish them all the best as they use the new skills and experiences to propel their careers in exciting directions.
